DEVOTIONS
by Teresa Dietrich
21 For although they knew God, they neither glorified him as God nor gave thanks to him, but their thinking became futile and their foolish hearts were darkened. 22 Although they claimed to be wise, they became fools 23 and exchanged the glory of the immortal God for images made to look like a mortal human being and birds and animals and reptiles. Romans 1:21-23 (NIV)
An undivided heart. The Landscape of the world in which Christians walk has become clouded, shadowy, and unclear, with some Believers taking a little from this religion and a little from that religion to make a cocktail of things that don’t resemble what God called the church to look like when He was walking the earth.
I often hear, “Why does it matter if a Christian marries an unbeliever? What does it hurt if I do this or that?” “What’s wrong with crystals, astrology, horoscopes, etc.?”
The answer is that they distort God’s calling in your life as a Believer and His mission when He wants you to have an undivided heart. They take the Gospel and add the things of this world that don’t belong, ultimately confusing the Message of Christ. And, on top of all of that, some of those things separate you from Christ when they become idols to you. Simply stated, they give you a divided heart.
un·di·vid·ed | \ ˌən-də-ˈvī-dəd
: not separated into parts or pieces: existing as a single whole: not divided as an undivided property
24 Therefore God gave them over in the sinful desires of their hearts to sexual impurity for the degrading of their bodies with one another.
25 They exchanged the truth about God for a lie, and worshiped and served created things rather than the Creator—who is forever praised. Amen.
Romans 1:24-25
God will not force His will on us and desires us to choose it, even when He knows it’s in our best interest. We are blessed to have scripture and prayer to guide us when we make unhealthy choices.
What I know for sure, friend, is that anything that separates or takes you away from God keeps you from fully receiving His grace!
Jesus, please give me an undivided heart so I can remain focused on You. I want to do Your will and build Your kingdom here on this earth as scripture reminds me to. Please put boundaries in my life and give me the strength to be like You. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.

18 The wrath of God is being revealed from heaven against all the godlessness and wickedness of people, who suppress the truth by their wickedness, 19 since what may be known about God is plain to them, because God has made it plain to them. 20 For since the creation of the world, God’s invisible qualities—his eternal power and divine nature—have been clearly seen, being understood from what has been made, so that people are without excuse. The Lord is not slow in keeping his promise, as some understand slowness. Instead, he is patient with you, not wanting anyone to perish but everyone to come to repentance. – 2 Peter 3:9 (NIV)
