Somehow, somewhere, I began pouring from an empty cup! Not aware of when, but I did. Then I noticed I started to feel as though I couldn’t breathe. It was anxiety brought on by the empty cup thing!
Do you know the feeling? Have you experienced this sensation before? What did you do to get rid of it? Did any of those things really help or just hold off the feeling you were experiencing for a short time?
When anxiety was great within me, your consolation brought me joy. Psalm 94:19
For me, I know the answer but need to make time! Put it on my very busy schedule and just do it! It might be unconventional but it works! What’s needed is full engagement with the Lord! Oh, I have been praying, reading a little scripture here and there but it is just not enough! Full engagement is the only thing that works!
So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand. Isaiah 41:10
Simply worship the Lord! To start, praise God by playing some of my favorite worship songs! Next, pray and pour my heart out to God to make a clear connection with His heart. Confessing what needs to be confessed, getting clean. This process continues as needed, the prescription is written by the Great Physician. Add in scripture, allowing my cup to slowly fill, drop by drop! Last but not least at all, thank God for how good He is, especially for refilling the empty cup! This fix is a natural remedy but very effective!
Praise the Lord. Praise the Lord, my soul. I will praise the Lord all my life; I will sing praise to my God as long as I live. Psalm 146:1-2
This problem seems to occur when giving so much to everyone else but not taking time out to take care of yourself! The idea of self-care is not overrated; it should be attempted daily but at least once a week if possible so there is something left to give. Our Husbands, children, friends, and the church will thank us when we do. Quality time spent with God is the best form of self-care! My advice is we pray for God to fill us every single day!!!
Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid. John 14:27

As someone who has battled bad anxiety I always end up turning to my faith. Seeing scriptures or quotes have always seemed to help me along with listening to a Christian radio station. I could not agree more with having faith in god and making sure to have self-care. Good to know I am not alone in using faith to help battle everyday battles.

We are so blessed Noelle to have great resources to reach for when we are struggling with anxiety and anything else. Glad God has given us a connection with those everyday battles.

What great advice! I love Psalm 146 too. I agree that worship is the key to any anxiety. What a great God we serve! Thank you so much for sharing!!

You are right Abby, God is great! I too love Psalm 146, especially verses 1-2. “Praise the LORD. Praise the LORD, my soul. I will praise the LORD all my life; I will sing praise to my God as long as I live.” Psalm 146:1-2
Stacee
I love this! I prefer a day of prayer and relaxation when my anxiety hits!

A day of prayer and relaxation with the Lord really is the best during times of anxiety. Thank you Stacee!

What you wrote about pouring from an empty cup…that stood out to me. Even outside of anxiety, it’s so easy to be pouring out of empty cups and not even realize. Especially when it comes to our walks with God, I feel like it’s easy to form into the habit of doing that. If not realizing that we’re not reading His Word enough or praying or having fellowship with others. That’s us pouring from an empty cup. What can we possibly receive if we are not doing the things we need to do to receive. Sorry – I took that in an entirely different context from anxiety haha!

Ariel, I will be praying for you today and anyone else I know that is struggling with anxiety. This post can absolutely be about something other than anxiety. Anxiety is what comes from giving too much in so many ways. Thank you so much for sharing what God put on your heart, it means a lot to be able to pray for you!
