Prayer is a Key

Build A Tribe

by Teresa Dietrich

And the scripture was fulfilled that says, “Abraham believed God, and it was credited to him as righteousness,”and he was called God’s friend. James 2:23 (NIV)

Build a Tribe… Although Jesus should be our primary source of conversation and comfort, we are made to fellowship and live in community with other Christians. We all need someone else to talk to, share our hearts with, and hash out ideas with, including someone to pray with. If you are lucky enough, it might be your spouse or a sibling, but that may not always be true.

As I’ve grown older, I have seen the importance of doing this. A few years ago, I started a small group Bible study with like-minded believers who wanted to grow in their faith. This group emphasizes fellowship.

I began reaching out to other Christian women to have coffee or meet for lunch or dinner and worked at strengthening existing friendships. Building healthy friendships has blessed me tremendously and helped me with loneliness.
Build a Tribe, Scripture, Bible Verse, A friend loves at all times, and a brother is born for a time of adversity. Proverbs 17:17

In John 11, we see the relationship between Jesus, Martha, Mary, and Lazarus. Their love and friendship are evident when Jesus weeps over Lazarus’s death. He models this so perfectly for us. I can’t help but think of how God has moved my heart as I’ve prayed for friends with their losses.

I believe God’s plan is for us to be loved and love others like this. As an illustration, we can see this kind of love and friendship between David and Jonathan in 1 Samuel 20:17.

How beautiful that we, too, can do this. Above all, unity and fellowship are the foundation of good relationships.

I encourage you to pray for God to bring healthy relationships into your life as you Build a Tribe. In addition, be intentional and creative. Meet on Zoom if that’s the only way. Remember the importance of being connected to like-minded people.

2 Corinthians 6:14- Do not be yoked together with unbelievers. For what do righteousness and wickedness have in common? Or what fellowship can light have with darkness?

Prayer-

Lord, I pray that You will lead me to good and healthy relationships. Please remove anything or anyone that is in opposition to Your plan for my life. Please show me how to be a better friend and strengthen my relationship with You so that You call me Your friend. Thank You for allowing me to come to You in prayer anytime, day or night. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.
