Do What You Love

Growing up in the 60s I wanted to be a Go-Go dancer, just so I could wear those amazing white, patent leather boots!  After that I wanted to be a model but was too short, I am only 5’2. In high school, I wanted to be a Contemporary Christian Artist. Without any direction from my parents, I had no idea what to do.

In my senior year of high school, my counselor invited me and two friends to meet with her. She asked what we thought we might want to do after graduation. My friends were planning to go to junior college and study Dental Assisting; the counselor suggested I do the same. Since I had nothing better in mind I enrolled when the time came, starting after graduation.

Graduating from college, I found a job in my field and began working. After marrying, having my first two children, my husband, Dan and I decided it was time for me to stay home to raise our children. Once my kids were old enough, I worked various part-time jobs to help with finances, which I did until a few years ago.

“Let the favor of the Lord our God be upon us, and confirm for us the work of our hands; yes, confirm the work of our hands.” Psalms 90:17

In order to feel productive, God began to open doors for me to work in ministry, which I love! It wasn’t until I became a Prayer Coordinator and began writing my first book, which is a prayer journal of sorts, I realized I had finally found my thing! The book is being published now; it will be exciting when it’s finally done! Looking back I could see that I had always loved writing and found creative ways to do it. The most important part was for me to realize what it was I love to do and find a way to start doing it.

She said, “Oh, my lord! As your soul lives, my lord, I am the woman who stood here beside you, praying to the Lord. 1 Samuel 1:26

The last two years have been a joy with God placing new ways to write on my heart, I can’t wait to see what else He has in mind! Prayer has been such an important part of the journey so God could reveal to me what it is He made me for. So now, I would like to encourage you to do the same. My prayer is that you don’t wait as long as I did to figure it out, but if you do God will get you where you need to go eventually, especially through prayer! It’s never too late for you to do what you really love to do! Just in case you are unsure, here are 5 powerful tips to know God’s Will:

  1. Seek God out by beginning to pray specifically for His will, fast if you need to.
  2. Journal and date what God places on your heart.
  3. Ask others to pray for you!
  4. Read God’s word to search out His will for your future!
  5. Seek out, godly counsel for confirmation, if needed.

Now therefore, pray You, if I have found favor in Your sight, let me know Your ways that I may know You, so that I may find favor in Your sight. Consider too, that this nation is Your people.”  Exodus 33:13

What a great story and testament to God’s plan for our life…even if we don’t see it right away. Thank you for sharing!

How very inspiring. I love that you add “Ask others to pray for you.” We often don’t ask for prayers from others for ourselves.

Thanks, Stephanie! So true and yet very important because we need prayer too.

I find it’s the waiting that is the hardest. It’s easy to have people pray for me, work with me, learn everything there is to learn about what I love to do and pray myself for it. In other words doing all the steps you list, but waiting for it to ‘happen’. Psalms 27:14 – Wait on the LORD: be of good courage, and he shall strengthen thine heart: wait, I say, on the LORD. But I continue to stand on the promises Psalms 130:5 – I wait for the LORD, my soul doth wait, and in his word do I hope. Because Jeremiah 29:11 For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future. Thanks for the encouraging word.

I agree with you Pauline, it is hard to wait on God. So glad that He waits with us though.

I found your site from your post on IG. Though I’m reading this post in November, it speaks to my personal journey in such a way as only one who understands prayer and God’s will, could write! I would love to share my writing with you as I too am on the verge of completing my first book. Wow! This was refreshing. Thank you!
