Hedge of protection… DRIFTWOOD, like PRAYER, has a common purpose: they both provide a hedge of protection.
I love going to the ocean to watch the sunlight hit the water as it moves in and out and listen to the calming sounds it makes, including the seagulls singing as they fly over.
It’s beautiful with all its glorious colors as it sits there majestically. I love the fresh smell of the saltwater and the feel of the sand beneath my feet.
Benefits of Driftwood
With all the wind and waves that pound the sandy soil, driftwood can strengthen the sand on a beach. Sandy beaches constantly experience motion as the water moves in and out. This movement beats down the soil and threatens to drag it into the ocean.

Think of how you put up borders around a garden to contain stuff like bark. Driftwood, washed-up shells, and seaweed can help hold the sand in place and allow plants to take root. Who would have thought driftwood benefitted the beach?
God Provides Protection
We can see prayer in the same way. As we pray, God places barriers in our lives to protect us against the outside forces that threaten to wash away all His good work. God is good that way. He has provided an avenue of protection as we pray over the lives of our family, friends, and ourselves.
Driftwood is a metaphor for how God uses prayer to strengthen and protect our spiritual lives. How do we find direction without the constant communication with God that prayer provides? Like the ocean, water has the potential to drag away the soil so that it would be the same as a life without prayer. Therefore, God blesses us with prayer as an added hedge of protection.

We find assurance by knowing that God sets up a hedge of protection as we pray.
Thought For the Day
God is our refuge in times of hardship, trial, and joy. Like in times of old, He will guard and protect you. You need only to ask for His help. But remember, leaning into Him is better than bearing the storms in your life alone.

Prayer of Protection
Heavenly Father, please surround me with a hedge of protection. Be my refuge and my fortress. I want to trust You in every area of my life. Please be with me, and cover me with Your pinions so that I can take refuge under Your wings. Remind me daily of Your faithfulness. Help me hide behind Your shield and barricade as I rejoice in who You are. In Your name, Jesus.
