How To Live Life on Purpose… What are three things you’ve done in the last six months to a year that has made you feel more present in your life!?!

Oh, I know! As you look down at your bathrobe and pJ’s that you’re still wearing since this morning, you are having a hard time imagining anything else. Am I right!?! If you’re a momma like me, it’s been a struggle just looking into last night, let alone the last 6 months. I can’t see that one all-important tree when the whole forest is clogging up my vision. But, like you, I am trying as hard as I can…

There are days that we struggle to think clearly and string together a whole sentence, and yet we are trying to move forward for everyone that depends on us. BUT FOR NOW, LET’S FOCUS ON THE MOMENT, NOT THE WHOLE DAY!

BE PRESENT- when living life on purpose!

SO, LET’S LOOK AT JUST WHAT IS IN FRONT OF US AT THE MOMENT! What are you staring at right now that has caught your attention or rather should be? For me, it’s my phone, all too often. I want to break the habit and find life more meaningful, especially when I enjoy time with family without something else’s distraction. One thing that’s helped is the iPhone screen time notification that pops up once a week, giving a gentle nudge to keep phone usage down. It really helps!

BE INTENTIONAL…

Recently, I noticed my daughter going outside during the day to read a book, exercise, or cherish the day when she isn’t at work. As a result, she seems happier because she has chosen to be more intentional about how she spends her time. It makes me want to do the same, and my days are better as a result of following her lead.

BE IN THE MOMENT…

My family and I attended the Sunrise Service at Church for Easter this year. As I was getting ready to take a picture of the sunrise, my daughter standing next to me reminded me how awesome it is to put the camera down and enjoy the moment instead. She was right! As a result, it was more meaningful! It reminded me of a line in the Walter Mitty movie with Ben Stiller, who played Walter, and Sean Penn, who played photographer Sean O’Connell. If you’ve never seen it, it’s a great movie to show perspective on How To Live Life on Purpose…

Walter Mitty: When are you going to take it? Sean O'Connell: Sometimes I don't. If I like a moment, for me, personally, I don't like to have the distraction of the camera. I just want to stay in it. Walter Mitty: Stay in it? Sean O'Connell: Yeah. Right there. Right here.

So, if we have learned anything from this past year, it’s how much we value our time with loved ones. Here are some ideas that have helped; hopefully, they help you too. First, make a list of the things you’ve done in the last 6 months to a year that has made you feel more present in your life. Second, write down the adjustments you’ve made here and there- the ones that have left you feeling more rested, refreshed, and restored. Here are 7 ideas to add to your list! PLEASE SHARE YOURS!

How To Live Life on Purpose…

So I commend the enjoyment of life, because there is nothing better for a person under the sun than to eat and drink and be glad. Then joy will accompany them in their toil all the days of the life God has given them under the sun. Ecclesiastes 8:15

I love this! It’s been so easy to fall into “scrolling” this past year, but being present in the moment, and intentional can bring us back to what’s important. I love your Walter Mitty quote, it’s one of my favourites!

Scrolling can be such a trap. Boundaries need to be set for phone time nowadays.

This was a nice read. It always helps to have that little nudge to have gratitude for the things we take advantage of. I will read on.

“BE INTENTIONAL…” I loved this paragraph. I recently started filling out a Daily Planner to be more intentional about my actions for the day!

Thank you for this. My husband and I have been trying to find ways to break the cycle of getting home from work, eating dinner, watching TV, on our phones and then getting ready to sleep. We actually have recently played a few games and read together – as simple as that is, they are meaningful moments. Thank you for the reminder!

It’s especially nice to do Bible study outside early in the morning.
