My sweet husband, Dan kept talking for months about how he was saving cash to buy new tires for my car. Each time he mentioned it I thought it was nice but never really thought another thing about it. Once he saved enough money we made a date and woke up early one Saturday morning to drive to the tire shop.
Dan and I dropped the car off and went to breakfast. We enjoyed our time together and went back for the car when we were done eating. After I left the tire shop I ran my car through the car wash and headed to the store.
At that point, I noticed my car felt a little different while driving it. Once I arrived home I asked my husband why. He reminded me he had already told me it would feel like driving a new car. I guess I had blocked that out when he would talk about saving for new tires. I should have paid more attention.
I finally had to ask both my husband, Dan, and, son, Cole why new tires are so important to any car. Cole said, “When a car’s tires are worn the car might drift all over the place regardless of direction but new tires make it possible to drive in a straight path.” He also went on to say, “changing the tires won’t mean the road won’t be bumpy but you will be able to drive over bumps without fear of a blowout!”
That’s kinda profound! Do you think that maybe God thinks of us in the same way? That from time to time we all need a tune-up? Might be that God needs to replace something on or in us? I think so! I now realize that God was trying to show me something each time my husband would talk about new tires. I will pray about it and let you know what else He might be showing me.
Today’s Assurance: Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, the new creation has come: The old has gone, the new is here! 2 Corinthians 5:17
Declaration: When I allow God to change my life for his glory, I am better for it!
Prayer: Dear Jesus, I praise You for new life! Thank you for changing out those things in me and in my life that need to be changed. Teach me how to be thankful in all circumstances, even change that comes from you. Please soften my heart as you work in me. Break my heart for what breaks your heart Lord so that I will desire to be like you. In your sweet name, Jesus!

A nice reminder that the Lord speaks through simple things…like tires. 🙂 Thanks for sharing!

Thanks Gail! Nothing complicated about tires. Kind of funny when I think about it!

I love how the Lord uses everyday things to speak to our hearts. So often, I’m looking for a rushing wind or a roaring fire, but He instead speaks in a still, small voice. Sadly, I often miss the things He trying to tell me the first time, and I am grateful and humbled that He takes the time to tell me as many times as it takes for me to listen.

I agree Miriam! It’s wonderful that God is patient and comes back around until we hear him!

This is awesome! I’d never thought of it that way.

Wow Tee, I so loved this post! It was wonderful to read about the whole thing with how Dan wanted to take care of you, BUT more importantly about how God cares about changing us, and especially will grow us through that change!
Love it,
Saroya

Great analogy between the tires and God! Driving a straight path can only happen with new tires and living a life on the straight and narrow can only happen when God is working on us and giving us a “tune-up” from time to time!

Thanks Christa! I am glad God knows when we need the tune-ups!

Isn’t it great that even New Tires can be a reason for us to ponder how God is working in our lives? I love how it causes us to smile and praise Him some more. Thanks for sharing!
