When distracted, I prayer walk in search of direction and wisdom. Since it’s #votingseason2020, I need direction now more than ever, so I am praying a lot! It clears my head of negative thoughts and guides me as I rely on God to lead me.

There’s a lot at stake this season, so God wants each of us to trust Him like He did the Israelites in ages past. He wants us to pray and ask Him for guidance when searching for answers.

God’s Guidance in the Desert

Just imagine how much prayer walking the Israelites were doing for forty years as they wandered through the desert. God was the cloud by day and the fire by night that led them all the way to the promised land.

Pray for All Leaders

As I pray, God has shown me that I need to walk to focus on Him for instruction, using scripture.

1 Timothy 2:1-2 I urge, then, first of all, that petitions, prayers, intercession, and thanksgiving be made for all people— for kings and all those in authority, that we may live peaceful and quiet lives in all godliness and holiness.

Scripture reminds me to pray God’s heart for EVERYONE running for election at the local and national level. As I continue in prayer, God keeps pointing my thoughts towards Job. In chapters 38-34, God reminded Job of who He is and what He had done for him and all of creation. But, it wasn’t until after he prayed for his friends, as seen in Job 42:10, that we see how God restored him.

Prayer Walking Brings Clarity

Job couldn’t understand what God was doing in his situation any more than we do and had lots of questions. Prayer gave him the clarity he needed to focus on God rather than his pain. It allowed him to look for God’s plan and not at his circumstances; we can do the same.

Prayer Walking Tenderizes the Heart

When we pray for each candidate, God can turn our minds to WHAT He wants us to intercede for. It makes us realize that what we pray for is as valuable as whom we are praying for. It gives us a tenderness toward the person and allows the Holy Spirit access to our hearts. Our heart is changed as well as the people we pray for.

God’s desire for us as we prayer walk in search of direction is to pray what is right and trust Him for the outcome. God’s will is hard to understand, but I am praying for His will and not mine. Here is what I am praying for:

1. For direction, guidance, and wisdom.

2. For clarity of mind, peace, and a pure heart.

3. That I would pray God’s will and not my own.

4. Salvation for the candidate and their families.

5. That God would remove anything or anyone in opposition to His plan for the elections being held.

This list is keeping me grounded and clear-headed! I hope you will join me in praying as well. I’d love to hear what you have to say and keep the conversation going. Let’s keep it positive!
