My oldest daughter, Bailey and son-in-law Jeremy got married on October 6, 2018. This means I am officially in the league with other Mothers of the Bride! It was a wonderful day with everything and everyone looking beautiful. I am glad because the work leading up to the big day was long and exhausting! Even my hair was tired! Yes, you heard me right! My hair was tired!
Once engaged, Bailey and Jeremy were convinced they wanted a backyard wedding. Of course, it had to be OUR backyard! After thinking about it for a while, my husband and I tried to persuade them to find another venue for the reception but ended up saying yes!
From the time of their engagement, we had a year to prepare. We started planting, pruning, replacing and miracle growing everything in our yard. We potted and then repotted the plants that died. We over watered & under watered just to make sure everything looked perfect for the special day.
God began to show me scripture to understand the importance of the work we were doing in the garden. He encouraged me with John 15:2 – “He cuts off every branch in me that bears no fruit, while every branch that does bear fruit he prunes so that it will be even more fruitful.”
If you know anything about gardening in California you would fully understand that springtime is always beautiful but after summer passes, things look dry and worn out! Just like my hair! About 6 months into the engagement my hair started to fall out and I started to lose weight. Apparently, I was working so hard that my body started to feel it.
The “Big Day” arrived and went very well with all of our hard work paying off! At some point after the wedding, I noticed my hair had stopped falling out. Then sometime later I had what appeared to be short broken pieces in various areas over the top of my head. I now had “regrowth.”
Regrowth was something new to me! Since then I have really been paying attention to the “regrowth” and noticed that there was a lot of it. After praying and studying God’s word, I am reminded that both “regrowth” and “pruning” are good! Here are a couple of scriptures that have encouraged me and I pray they will encourage you too!
Colossians 2:7 says, “Let your roots grow down into him, and let your lives be built on him. Then your faith will grow strong in the truth you were taught, and you will overflow with thankfulness.”
Today’s Assurance: “For you know that when your faith is tested, your endurance has a chance to grow. So let it grow, for when your endurance is fully developed, you will be perfect and complete, needing nothing.” James 1:3-4
Declaration: Growth in our lives comes from trusting God with every circumstance and situation we face.
Prayer: Dear Jesus, I praise you for your grace. Thank you for your living water that helps when I am dry and stagnant. Please prune me when I need it so that I can grow. Show me what to do when my roots become shallow or broken. Replant me when I am potted in the wrong soil, I want to grow like you! In your grace-filled name, Jesus!

I’ve had 5 kids so far get married, 3 of them daughters. So I feel for you. Planning a wedding is hard work! I love your analogy of regrowth. And your yard looks beautiful. The wedding party is gorgeous!

Thank you! Wow, Rebecca! How did you get through all those weddings? I have 2 more kids to possibly marry someday which I look forward to if it is God’s plan for them. Honestly, it was such a great experience, it felt magical!

What a beautiful encouragement and a breath-taking wedding! It’s difficult sometimes to get past the perspective of only seeing what we’re loosing to get to the point where we can even acknowledge the regrowth. This is a poignant reminder that even when we’ve been trimmed to the point of feeling destroyed, fuller days are coming than we ever imagined before the pruning.
