Scriptures to Pray in Times of Loss. How do you deal with sorrow and grief? Where do you go when you feel sad and alone, needing comfort and peace? Who do you go to when you are struggling with loss and will reassure you that everything will be alright?

God consoles, reassures, helps, and assists us in our time of need, especially in times of loss. Here are five scriptures to pray during those times of loss when you need comfort and peace. Remembering, He is a loving Father who won’t leave us but is always there when we need Him most.

God is our Comforter

Scripture reminds us that God encourages, cares, and sympathizes with us in our times of need. He will be there with and for us because we are dearly loved. Please be encouraged to use these scriptures as you pray, knowing He is always there and listening.

Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go.” Joshua 1:9

Cry out to God

Dear God - You who are my Comforter in sorrow, my heart is faint within me. From Jeremiah 8:18

Proclaim God’s truth

Heavenly Father – I am Blessed in my mourning, for I will be comforted. From Matthew 5:4

Ask the Lord to meet your needs

Jesus - Turn my mourning into gladness; give me comfort and joy instead of sorrow. From Jeremiah 31:13b

How to make it through the day

Lord – Remind me of this: And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus. From Philippians 4:7

Focus your heart on God as a good Father

Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of compassion and the God of all comfort, who comforts us in all our troubles so that we can comfort those in any trouble with the comfort we ourselves receive from God. For just as we share abundantly in the sufferings of Christ, so also our comfort abounds through Christ. From 2 Corinthians 1:3-5

A Prayer for Comfort

Jesus, I give you all my struggle and all my hurt. Please reach deep into my heart, and draw me to You. I confess I am fighting against the loss in my life right now. I want to feel Your presence and know that You are there. Comfort me and give me the peace that only You can give me, Jesus. Show me how to find the reassurance and love I need. Thank you for being a light in the darkness. Please guide me to get through the day. I praise You for Your love and affection for me. In Jesus’ name, amen.

A Psalm of David

The Lord is my shepherd; I have all that I need. He lets me rest in green meadows; He leads me beside peaceful streams. He renews my strength. He guides me along right paths, bringing honor to his name. Even when I walk through the darkest valley, I will not be afraid, for you are close beside me. Your rod and your staff protect and comfort me. You prepare a feast for me in the presence of my enemies. You honor me by anointing my head with oil. My cup overflows with blessings. Surely your goodness and unfailing love will pursue me all the days of my life, and I will live in the house of the Lord forever. The 23rd Psalm - Read Full Chapter @BibleGateway
