Kindness Never Goes Out Of Style…

Kindness never goes out of style… It’s so fashionable we can put it on day or night, it looks good on us through every season! It even comes in one size and doesn’t cost a thing! So, I say, put it on and share it with whomever you can, every day of the year!

Eliezer Prayed

When Abraham was looking for a wife for his son, Isaac, he sent the senior servant in his household, Eliezer (from Genesis 15:2), to go to his own country and look among his relatives. God sent an angel before the servant to prepare the way. Upon arriving in Abraham’s hometown, the servant kneeled and prayed for two things.

Kindness never goes out of style, Pray for God's kindness. Then he prayed, “Lord, God of my master Abraham, make me successful today, and show kindness to my master Abraham. Genesis 24:12

First, he prayed for success to accomplish what God was calling him to do.

Second, he prayed that God would show kindness to Abraham.

Pray for Success and Kindness

Then he prayed, “Lord, God of my master Abraham, make me successful today, and show kindness to my master Abraham. Genesis 24:12

Upon reading this, I wonder how often we pray for God to show kindness to other people? This man was praying for his employer. Do we pray for our employers? We all know that there needs to be more kindness in the world around us in this current climate. BUT, do we pray for it or offer it to people we know or see when we are out and about?

When  Eliezer prayed, God went before him to open doors so that he could fulfill the task at hand. His prayer was twofold. His kindness was shown toward Abraham when he asked God for success, knowing how blessed Abraham would be if Eliezer found a wife for Isaac. But, he took it a step further when he asked God to show him kindness directly.

We are Called to Pray

I know we struggle with this sometimes, but we need to do it anyway! No matter who they are or how we feel about them. Above all else, we are called to pray. At the end of the day, we can remember that kindness will never go out of style. It is certainly more attractive than the alternative.

  1. I am a firm believer in prayer. I sometimes wonder if I pray correctly but, I know God hears me. He has delivered me out of some very dark times and seems to hold me in his arms lots of times. Thank you for your inspiration.

    1. How sweet Sharon, thank you for the reminder to all of us that God holds us in His arms when we need it. I am sure you pray correctly; it’s wonderful to learn as we grow in our faith.

  2. So simple and so true! I believe in kindness to everyone! I loved the reference to Eliezer and his prayer to God for the success and for Abraham’s benefit. I never thought about it that way. Thank you for giving your perspective!

  3. I like this!! Being kind to people is something that I am always striving for. What I am making sure that I am doing more of, is being kind to loved ones. Sometimes they can be taken for granted. Thank you for the reminder

    1. You are right, Zo; loved ones can be taken for granted. How awesome that you make a point of being kind to them!

  4. Great post and awesome example! Yes, we are called to pray. And the wonderful things that happen, or shift when we take the time to pray for others. The beautiful thing about prayer is that it can be done at any time, anywhere, in any place!

  5. Beautiful message! “Be kind” is a mantra I would like to apply in my daily life. I find it is extremely difficult to do when you are tired and stressed out, so asking for God’s help with it is important!

    1. Agreed, Kathleen, being tired and stressed out can affect our daily life, especially being kind. We need to all pray for God to help us with it more often.

  6. Prayer changes things and it works. I love this article. My blog is about relationSHIPS that we experience but the most important SHIP in our lives is the one with self. This is well written and true. I work every day to be kind to others even when they don’t. Thanks so much. I enjoyed this,

    1. That’s wonderful that you are writing about relationSHIPS and that you make a point to be kind every day.

  7. This was such an encouraging post! I definitely need to be more diligent in my prayer life – especially when it comes to praying for kindness. Thank you for this!

  8. This is SO good! Kindness is so simple, and it opens so many doors. I’ve never understood why some people choose to be mean, but it is a part of the fallen world. Pain and woundedness can cause people to behave in ways that they don’t even want to behave. But kindness is such a joyful way to live!

    1. Thank you and amen Holly! You make a good point about people’s pain and woundedness. It’s so important for us to pray for the pain of people we know.
